FAQ:
Do I need any screenwriting experience?
No. This course will start from the basics and we will cover lots of formatting and work
our way up to how to sell your work.
Do I need any software/equipment?
Yes, but technically not required. The first week we will go over how to download
screenwriting software that you will need. At the end of the day, if you don't want to
work on the exercises we're doing, you do not have to, however, if you'd like to get
the most out of the class it is recommended. I will not look at anything written on
Microsoft word.
What is the 30 minute consultation?
Included in your registration is a 30 minute sit down with me to talk about your goals,
your work, etc. My aim is to help you get where you want to go and try to connect
you with the right people/give advice.
What kind of industry professionals will we be interviewing?
This is customizable depending on who the group would like to hear from; but I'm thinking producers, network executives, agents, managers, screenwriters, directors/actors if you guys are interested. It will be customizable from my list of industry contacts depending on your interests.
Why are you teaching this class?
There were a lot of things missing in the classes I took when I was younger and I want to provide a more comprehensive course for people interested in screenwriting. I felt as though most classes were focused on workshopping ideas rather than the strategy of how to leverage that idea. Working at A+E Networks taught me so much about the expectations of network executives and producers--did you know most network execs only read the first 20 pages of a script? There are also a lot of outdated "screenwriting rules" that a lot of people don't follow any more. All in all, I love being in Louisiana in the spring and I thought an 8 week course between Mardi Gras and Festival International was the perfect fit. =)
